Saludos.

We are currently in Santiago, Chile taking a break from the not-so-cold winter in California. The weather has been relatively hot and humid, which makes for a perfect day at the beach in Vina del Mar. "Pareo" means sarong in Spanish.

Upon arriving, I quickly looked through the local newspaper and came across the ad on the left. It is the first pareo or "sarong" ad I've ever seen outside the US. The pareos are fairly priced and made in India. The ad offers a variety of different pareos in a well known retail chain throughout Chile.

Pareos are very popular here in Chile. Almost everyone knows what a "pareo" is, and if you go to the beaches, you'll see them everywhere. Also, if you walk down the main beaches you'll find many local merchants selling different types of sarongs, mini-sarongs, and wraps - all unique and different from one another.

Cheers from the other side of the world!

Sarong has many different names in different parts of the world: Canga, Kikoy, Kanga, Pareo, Lavalava, Lamba, Capulana, Zambias, Sampot, Longyi etc.
